Covered carports require enough clearance to open the hood, which virtually all carports have (7+ feet). Parking garages work fine as long as there is sufficient overhead clearance and ventilation (most modern apartment garages meet these requirements). Tight parking spots between cars work as long as we can fully open the driver's or passenger's door to access the hood release and have clearance in front of the vehicle to work on the battery.
If your apartment complex has a gate, give us the access code when you call. If there is a courtesy officer or security desk, let them know to expect a service vehicle. We can also meet you at the gate if the code situation is complicated. We are used to navigating apartment access procedures — just give us the information and we handle the rest.
For covered garages where there is limited ventilation, we take extra care during the battery swap to avoid sparking near the battery. Lead-acid batteries produce hydrogen gas during charging, and enclosed spaces with poor ventilation can accumulate this flammable gas. Our technicians follow strict spark-prevention protocols in all enclosed parking areas: disconnecting negative first, reconnecting negative last, and avoiding any metal-to-metal contact that could generate a spark near the battery.
